Barbara Sharrow
My name is Barb Sharrow and I moved to Montrose in 2004. I was the local manager for the Bureau of Land Management for 12 years.
I began my career as a backcountry ranger at Grand Canyon National Park. I then worked for the Colorado Bureau of Land Management as an outdoor recreation planner building a mountain bike program for the BLM for a few years. I then worked for Grand Staircase National Monument first as a recreation planner then as a manager.
I have watched the Montrose Recreation District grow and excel and am excited to be on the board. The Recreation District provides a place critical to many people in so many ways - from soccer, basketball, baseball to swimming, classes for all sorts of activities, physical therapy, pickleball and all the special activities for seniors. It's a place to stay fit, make friends, and learn new skills. It's the heartbeat of our community.
One of the teams I am currently on is the accessibility team. We're looking at every aspect of the physical facilities, the programming, and the marketing to ensure we are inclusive to all. If you have ideas or suggestions on how the district can improve in this arena, I'd love to hear it.
